Lord’s Day Message

Bible Verses: Ruth 4

Topics: Christ has redeemed us back to Him

Important Verses:

“”The LORD bless you, my daughter!” Boaz exclaimed. “You are showing even more family loyalty now than you did before, for you have not gone after a younger man, whether rich or poor. Now don’t worry about a thing, my daughter. I will do what is necessary, for everyone in town knows you are a virtuous woman. But while it’s true that I am one of your family redeemers, there is another man who is more closely related to you than I am. Stay here tonight, and in the morning I will talk to him. If he is willing to redeem you, very well. Let him marry you. But if he is not willing, then as surely as the LORD lives, I will redeem you myself! Now lie down here until morning.” ” (Ruth 3:10~13, NLT)

“”Then I can’t redeem it,” the family redeemer replied, “because this might endanger my own estate. You redeem the land; I cannot do it.” … Then Boaz said to the elders and to the crowd standing around, “You are witnesses that today I have bought from Naomi all the property of Elimelech, Kilion, and Mahlon. And with the land I have acquired Ruth, the Moabite widow of Mahlon, to be my wife. This way she can have a son to carry on the family name of her dead husband and to inherit the family property here in his hometown. You are all witnesses today.”” (4:6, 9~10)

“For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past, for he was looking ahead and including them in what he would do in this present time. God did this to demonstrate his righteousness, for he himself is fair and just, and he declares sinners to be right in his sight when they believe in Jesus.” (Rom. 2:23~26)

“In those days you were living apart from Christ. You were excluded from citizenship among the people of Israel, and you did not know the covenant promises God had made to them. You lived in this world without God and without hope. But now you have been united with Christ Jesus. Once you were far away from God, but now you have been brought near to him through the blood of Christ. … So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens along with all of God’s holy people. You are members of God’s family.” (Eph. 2:12~13, 19)

Message Outline

  1. Review on chapters 1~3
  • Choices in your life (1)
  • Seeking the help from Boaz (typifies Christ) (2)
  • Developing intimacy with Boaz (Christ) (3)

2.  Boaz redeems all that Ruth has and herself

  • There is a closer relative but he is only interested in his own inheritance and is not willing to redeem Ruth. This is the kind of attitude the world treats us with.
  • Boaz gives Ruth the assurance of redemption in the name of the Lord that she can rest. (3:13) He will settle the matter swiftly (3:18) and he is also willing to gain Ruth (4:9-10). This is the picture of Christ redeeming us.

3.   Redemption of Christ in the New Testament

  • He has forgiven our sins and makes sinners righteous (Rom. 3:23`26)
  • He has made us who were without Christ become the member of the household of God. (Eph. 2:12~13, 19)

4.  The way to receive the salvation

  • Receiving Christ as our life through faith
  • Pursuing to grow in life and be closer and close to Christ day by day.
