Lord’s Day Message
Bible Verses: 2 Thessalonians Chap 1
Topics: The Growth of Faith
Important Verses:
“We ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers, as is right, because your faith is growing abundantly, and the love of every one of you for one another is increasing. Therefore we ourselves boast about you in the churches of God for your steadfastness and faith in all your persecutions and in the afflictions that you are enduring. This is evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are also suffering.” (2 Thess. 1:3~5, ESV)
“To this end we always pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling and may fulfill every resolve for good and every work of faith by his power, so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.” (2 Thess. 1:11~12)
Message Outline
- Stress the knowledge of the basic belief repeatedly
- Paul’s burden in the second epistle is the same with the first epistle. Only some contents are emphasized.
- We need to be reminded of some basic belief (such as belief, love, and hope). We may know some of them, yet our experience may be shallow and in need of strengthening by God’s words repeatedly.
2. The growth of the faith
a. We need to consider what faith means to us. What is the content of our faith? How can faith grow in us?
b. Believe in God’s acts
- Believing God can accomplish many things for us. This is the initial foundation that shows God is real and living.
c. Believe in God’s will
- Believe God’s will is good. His arrangement in our environment is for our benefit.
d. Believe in God’s self
- We have received God’s life as our life, which can transform us and make us like Him.
- Furthermore, we shall believe that through our transformation, God can also change everything around us.
3. Increase of love, endurance in the afflictions, and the hope of the Lord’s coming are actually related to our faith.
4. In regards to the Lord’s coming, we believe that the Lord is righteous in His judgment.
- For everything happening around us, no matter what afflictions or something we feel is not right, we must learn not to react by our flesh, but trust in the Lord who will judge righteously.
- In the church life we need to learn to fellowship for those we don’t understand and learn to trust that the Lord has the best arrangement.
