Topics: To Know the Truth and Live a Life Relating to the Coming of the Lord
Bible Verses: 1 Thess. 4:13~5:11
Important Verses:
“But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep.” (1 Thess. 4:13~14, ESV)
“… And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.” (1 Thess. 4:16b~17)
“For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.” (1 Thess. 5:2~3)
“For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness. …But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation. For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him.” (1 Thess. 5:5, 8~10)
Message Outline:
In this section Paul taught the saints to have a positive view about death, to rightly know Lord’s coming and to live soberly with the Lord.
- To have a positive view about death
- To man death is full of despair and sorrow. However, to those having God’s eternal life death is just a sleep that they will wait for the coming of the morning, the appearance of the morning star (Christ).
- When the Lord comes back, believers will experience the resurrection power as the Lord Jesus Christ did. Our Lord is the one who overcomes death.
2. The Lord’s coming back and the rapture of the saints
- When the Lord comes (The Greek word is parousia, means presence), the dead in Christ will first resurrect and those who are alive and left will be caught up together to always be with the Lord.
- The day of the Lord is like a thief in the night. No one can predict and no one can escape. We should be warned and not to be cheated.
3. The manner after knowing the Lord’s coming
- We are children of light and children of the day. We should feel joyful about the Lord’s coming, which will make us fully enjoy the light of life.
- The trickery of the enemy is to make us have doubts about the Lord coming or to be terrified. We need to be watchful that we will not be deceived and that our faith will be shaken.
- The situation of the worldly people is described as “sleep” and “drunken” because they have no feeling about salvation. They are also indulged in the worldly matters.
- When the enemy uses lies and attacks to move our faith, we need to put on the breastplate of faith and love and helmet of the hope of salvation. These keep us trusting in the Lord that He will protect us from the final judgment.
- Our manner of living should be sober and watchful. The Lord’s coming back should not be a doctrine but should have an influence that we are willing to live in the presence of the Lord to love Him and follow Him.

Intercession：
- May the Lord give every brother and sister a spirit of preaching gospel and open the hearts of all friends that they can receive the salvation of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- Pray that the Lord will give every brother and sister healthiness, peace and joy in our daily living. May the Lord heal those who are sick according to His good will that we can experience His great love and power of resurrection.
