Lord’s Day Message

Topics: To know God’s will and salvation in marriage

Bible Verses:

“Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” (Gen. 2:24, ESV)

“So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.” (Mat. 19:6)

“Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior.” (Eph. 5:22~23, also see Col. 3:18~19)

“Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.” (1 Pet. 3:7)

Message Outline:

  1. We must honour the marriage because it is related to God’s will (Heb.13:4, Gen.2:24)
  2. In God’s creation, husband and wife are one. In our experience we know that husband and wife are two different persons, but shall become one in God’s will and become heirs with each other of the grace of life (Gen.2:24, 1Pet. 3:7)
  3. Biblical teaching about marriage
  • They are one and heirs with other of the grace of life
  • Wife submits to husband and husband loves wife

In fact, submission and love are needed for both husband and wife. However, Bible emphasizes what is most needed for each one.

4. Our learning

  • In submission we learn to respect the person (husband), and in love we learn to become the protection, satisfaction, and perfection for the other (wife).
  • Learn to say  “Let us” instead of “you should”
  •  Learn to appreciate, accept and cooperate with the character of the other (for good and bad), especially come before the Lord for this.
  • Establish a way to fellowship with each other, and especially learn either individually or together come into the light of the Lord.
  • Let love continue to grow between you. For this we need to enjoy the love of the Lord and to partake His eternal and unchanging love.

5.  Partaking the salvation and grace of the Lord in marriage

  • We are unable to change the other (we are not savior), so we need the Lord’s salvation.
  • We are unable to perfect ourselves so we need the Lord salvation and grace.
