Lord’s Day Message
Topics: Give thanks to the Lord for what we have experienced in 2012
Bible Verses:
“You crown the year with your bounty; your wagon tracks overflow with abundance.” (Psa. 65:11, ESV)
“Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.” (Col. 4:2)
“You also must help us by prayer, so that many will give thanks on our behalf for the blessing granted us through the prayers of many.” (2 Cor. 1:11)
Referential Material:
In 2 Cor. 1:11, “many” can be also translated as “many faces” from Greek. Prayer can make many faces become faces of thanksgiving. More you pray for a brother or sister, more “round” (joyful) face you will have; the more you pray, more enlightened face you will have. Your face will become a face of thanksgiving. … When you talk about church, why is your face not joyful? It is because you did not pray much. If you pray more for the church, and pray more for the leading or serving brothers, your face will be changed, from long face to round face, from bitter face to sweet face! Prayer will make your face become sweet and full of thanksgiving.
We should always pray for brothers and sisters, and give thank to the Lord for the grace that many persons have received. If the church in Corinth prayed more, they would have more praises to God for Paul, “Lord! Thank you, it is for us that Paul received so much grace. It is for us that Paul had so many experiences. It is still for us that Paul has such rich Christ.” Paul is a pathway and a channel that through him God can enter into the church and the church can enter into God. Through him, Christ can become the reality of the church and the church can enjoy the reality of Christ. So when Paul experienced suffering for the Lord, he asked the church to pray for him. When church prayed for him, their faces will become faces of thanksgiving. Thank the Lord, … for such wonderful apostle, such wonderful Christ, and such wonderful church. (The Sweet Savor (1), 6, Titus Chu)
