Lord’s Day Message

Bible Verses: Col.1:15~29

Topics: To pursue the truth which Christ is preeminent and to present everyone mature in Christ

Important Verses:

“And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.” (Col. 1:17~20, ESV)

“To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ. For this I toil, struggling with all his energy that he powerfully works within me.” (Col. 1:27~29)

Message Outline

1.      Christ who is preeminent15~18

a. Christ is preeminent in the old creation and in the new creation.

b.  In Christ, all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell.

In position, Christ is above all and in content, Christ has all the fullness. Therefore our pursuing of truth must be in Christ.

2.      What Christ has done for us19~23

a. Before we were saved, we were alienated from and hostile toward God.

b. Christ has made peace by the blood of His cross, and has now reconciled by His death, in order to present us holy and blameless and above reproach before God.

Our pursuing of truth must help us treasure the value of the salvation. We should not depart from the salvation which Christ has accomplished and the goal of the salvation – present us before God that we can have an intimate relation with Him.

3.      The purpose of our serving (24~29)

a. Filling up what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions

b. To make the word of God fully known, which was the mystery  but now revealed to His saints that Christ in us is the hope of glory

c. Our service is to proclaim Christ and to present everyone mature in Christ

Our service is not for any doctrine or practice, but to present everyone in Christ to God. In this process we need to learn suffering, experience afflictions, and make God’s word fully known.
