Lord’s Day Message: Basic Lessons for Christians (2) A Life Journey of Growth in Life
- To experience God’s salvation, in our whole life we must
- Run the race (Heb. 12:1-2a; Phil. 3:13-14)
- Be perfected in God’s good work (Phil. 1:6; Heb. 12:2)
- Grow up into God’s full salvation (1 Pet. 2:2; Rom. 5:10)
- To grow healthily in the Lord we need to
- Take care of our heart (Prov. 4:23; Mat. 13:3-9, 18-23)
- Deal with all the negative matters of our past: such as weight, sin and idols etc. (Heb. 12:1; 1 Thes. 1:9; 1 Pet. 2:1)
- Deny the self and renew our mind to follow the Lord (Luke 9:23; Rom. 12:2)
- Receive God’s word as our nutrition (1 Pet. 2:2)
- Establish a close relationship with the Lord (John 15:5)
- Be supplied and perfected from gifted brothers and sisters (Eph. 4:11-14)
- In our whole life, what we hear and receive needs to become our reality and testimony (Jam. 1:22; Eph. 5:8)
Important Verses
1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, … (Heb 12:1-2a)
13 Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. (Phil. 3:13-14)
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. (Phil 1:6)
1 So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander. 2 Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation— (1Pe 2:1-2)
For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. (Rom. 5:10)
Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life. (Pro 4:23)
19 When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown along the path. 20 As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy, 21 yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away. 22 As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. 23 As for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it. He indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.” (Mat 13:19-23)
For they themselves report concerning us the kind of reception we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, (1 Thes 1:9)
And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” (Luke 9:23)
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. (John 15:5)
11 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, 14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. (Eph. 4:11-14)
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. (Jam. 1:22)
for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (Eph.5:8)
