Lord’s Day Message: Basic Lessons for Christians (1) Knowing you are saved
- Condition before salvation: A dead sinner and God’s enemy (Eph. 2:1-3, Rom. 3:9-12, 5:10)
- Salvation came and accomplished by
a. God’s grace, love and resurrection power (Eph. 2:4-7, Rom. 5:8)
b. The redemption work of Christ (Rom. 3:23-26, 1 Pet. 1:18-19)
c. The enlightening of the Spirit (Jhn. 16:8)
3. Receiving of salvation
a. Confessing and repentance (Mat. 4:17, Rom. 2:4, 1 Jhn. 1:9)
b. Believing (faith) (Eph. 2:8, Heb. 11:6)
4. The accomplishment of salvation makes man
a. Reconciled with God (Rom. 5:10)
b. Become the children of God (Jhn. 1:12)
c. Belong to God (1 Jhn. 5:19-20, 1 Cor. 6:20)
d. Mutually abide with the Lord (a close relationship) (Jhn. 15:5)
e. Full of peace and joy (Luke 1:78-79, Rom. 5:11)
5. The assurance of salvation
a. The Spirit and our spirit near the same testimony (Rom. 8:15-16)
b. The Lord can save us to the uttermost (Heb. 7:25)
c. No one will snatch us out from the Lord’s (God’s) hand (Jhn. 10:28-29)
6. What the salvation is NOT
a. Not of the blood
b. Not of the will of flesh (human’s effort) (Eph. 2:9)
c. Not of the will of man (Eph. 2:8)
7. Run the race that is set before us (Heb. 12:1-2)
4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ–by grace you have been saved– 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (Eph. 2:4-10)
24 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. 26 It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. (Rom. 3:24-26)
8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. 10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. 11 More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. (Rom. 5:8-11)
12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. (Jhn. 1:12-13)
28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. (Jhn. 10:28-29)
Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them. (Heb. 7:25)
