Lord’s Day Message: 2 & 3 John

• Truth and Love

1. The relationship

a. Love is in truth (2 John 1)
b. Truth produces love (2 John 1-2)
c. Truth and love together become a channel of God’s blessings (2 John 3)

2. Truth

a. It is in us ( 2 John 2, 3 John 3)
b. It is with us (2 John 2)
c.  It is our walking (2 John 4, 3 John 3)

• The Application of Truth and Love – Hospitality

1. Do not receive those deceivers and antichrist (2 John 7-11)

a. They deny that Jesus Christ came in flesh
b. Do not receive them and do not even greet them so that you will not take part in their sins
c. Beware and do not lose your reward: keep the teaching of Christ and you will have Father and the Son

2. Do receive brothers in traveling

a. Do it faithfully
b. It is testimony of love and in a manner worthy of God
c. You may become fellow workers in the truth

• Dealing with brothers doing evil or good (3 John 9-12)

1.  The evil of Diotrephes

a. Did not receive the apostles
b. Spoke against apostles with evil words
c. Forbade others to receive apostles

2. The goodness of Demetrius – testimonies from all, the truth, and the apostles

3.  Exhortation

a. Do not imitate evil, but the good
b. He who does good is of God; he who does evil has not seen God

¹ The elder to the elect lady and her children, whom I love in truth, and not only I, but also all who know the truth, ² because of the truth that abides in us and will be with us forever: ³ Grace, mercy, and peace will be with us, from God the Father and from Jesus Christ the Father’s Son, in truth and love. (2 John)

⁸ Watch yourselves, so that you may not lose what we have worked for, but may win a full reward. ⁹ Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God. Whoever abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. ¹⁰ If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house or give him any greeting, ¹¹ for whoever greets him takes part in his wicked works.

³ For I rejoiced greatly when the brothers came and testified to your truth, as indeed you are walking in the truth. ⁴ I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.

⁵ Beloved, it is a faithful thing you do in all your efforts for these brothers, strangers as they are, ⁶ who testified to your love before the church. You will do well to send them on their journey in a manner worthy of God. ⁷ For they have gone out for the sake of the name, accepting nothing from the Gentiles. ⁸ Therefore we ought to support people like these, that we may be fellow workers for the truth.

¹¹ Beloved, do not imitate evil but imitate good. Whoever does good is from God; whoever does evil has not seen God. ¹² Demetrius has received a good testimony from everyone, and from the truth itself. We also add our testimony, and you know that our testimony is true.

Announcements:

1. We welcome all the new ones who are joining us today and hope that you can leave your information for us to contact you in the future. After meeting please stay for lunch and enjoy the love feast together with us.
2. Today after the Lord’s Day meeting three sisters, Li Li, Mandy Zhou and Leonie, will be baptized. May all brothers and sisters come together to support them by prayers and blessings.
3. From April 22 Friday night to 25 Monday noon (ANZAC day) the church plans to have a conference at Collaroy.

The conference topic will cover Luke 15 which speaks how God has found us and how we find our value and meaning in life. The church also invites two brothers, Mike Samulak and Ben Sheu, as our speakers.

The cost of the camp: $240 for adult, #230.40 for children (Primary school or below), Day trip: $50/Day. If whole family participates (including the day trip) then you can have 20% off. If you have financial hardship, please fellowship with Brother Richard Chen.

4. In the coming lone weekend we plan to have an activity of hiking and picnicong at Narrabeen Lake on Saturday 10 am. We welcome all brothers, sisters and gospel friends to join. For the detail please contact Brother Olsen and Sister Likun.

<Reminder>

1. Brothers and sisters, please bring your own bible to the meeting.
2. Please come on time for the meeting. During the meeting, please turn off your mobile phone or put the volume on silence and not to walk around or to wonder in the kitchen.
3. When you prepare the love feast for Lord’s Day lunch, please do not prepare any food containing nuts as someone may have food allergy. After the love feast, please remember to bring back your plates.

Intercession:

1. May the Lord keep blessing the gospel work of the church and keep us fervent in spirit to preach the gospel. Pray that the Lord will bless the gospel friends among us to receive His salvation. Also pray for those have received the Lord to be baptized into God’s family.
2. Pray for Brother David Hu and Gerald Huang and three sisters, Li Li, Mandy Zhou and Leonie, who were just baptized. May the Lord establish them in the church life and bless their growth in life.
3. Pray for the coming Collaroy conference. May the Lord bless us through His words that we have more desire to pursue Him and to serve Him.
4. Pray for the brothers and sisters or their relatives who are weak in body or spirit. May the Lord care for them and give them sufficient grace. Pray especially for the health of Brothers HinSang Woon and Brother Shanwon Chow.
