Lord’s Day Message
Topics: Serving in the Church Life – Individual Preparation
Bible Verses: Rom. 12:1~2; Mark 10:35~45
Important Verses:
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.” (Rom. 12:1, NKJV)
“Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” (Mar. 10:43~45, NKJV)
Message Outline
1. To serve is reasonable for every believer
- Our serving is reasonable because we have received great salvation from the Lord.
- Everyone in the church life needs to participate the serving. You don’t need to consider your ability, and you need to learn not to rely on your feeling.
- When you serve, you will recognize the church is your home, otherwise you will be always a “guest.”
2. Serving will expose what you lack, but it is a chance for the Lord to make you grow
- In our natural life, we are unable to drink the cup that the Lord drinks and to be baptized with the baptism that the Lord is baptized with; however, in the life the Lord has given us, we are able to do it.
- Don’t be afraid to be exposed. Whenever we are exposed, it is a chance for us to know God’s will and to grow in life.
3. Get ready to serve
- The most important thing is not to get things done, but is how your person becomes shaped.
- Serving is not a matter of position to Lord over people, but is to serve others as a servant and a slave with the divine life so that people may gain life and God can be glorified.
- Serving is a sacrifice. To drink the Lord’s cup and to be baptized with the Lord’s baptism is to learn to be a servant and a slave. This is to learn from the Lord to give life for others that they may benefit spiritual things.
- Serving is not an easy matter. We may face the unbelief of men and even the anger from brothers and sisters. However, we need to learn to adjust ourselves that benefit others, to build up the church, and please God.
4. Some practical points for serving
- Before serving your need to prepare yourself. Learn to be godly and to serve with a heart full of prayers.
- During the serving pay attentions to how the Lord can be gained by you and those you serve.
- After serving, give thanks and praise to the Lord.
- Everyone has his own portion so don’t envy others and don’t ask yourself to do things beyond you. Just give what you can give. The Lord can always supply and bless others from what you have given.
