Lord’s Day Message:

The Transformation of Christians

Bible Verses:

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. (2 Cor. 5:17, NKJ)

1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. (Rom. 12:1~2, ESV)

16 Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.  17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. (2 Cor. 3, NKJ)

25 About three o’clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried out, “It’s a ghost!” 27 But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage. I am here!” 28 Then Peter called to him, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.” 29 “Yes, come,” Jesus said. So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted. 31 Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. “You have so little faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me?” (Mat. 14:25~31, NLT)

Message Outlines

  1. The beginning of Christian life: from old creation to new creation.
  2. The Christian transformation
  • Presenting ourselves as sacrifice: willing to yield and follow God’s will
  • Renewing our mind: not centered on ourselves, but to discern what God’s will is.
  • Removing our veil: taking away all the hindrance between God and us.
  • Beholding the Lord with an unveiled face: to desire to see the Lord and reflect His glory. Desire to be like Him.

3. The example: Peter walked on the sea.
4. Our application/exercise

  • Knowing our position in the new creation. Not to despair because of weakness, not to judge ourselves or others.
  • Be patient and learn how to be in the fellowship with the Lord. Learn to be close to Him in Bible reading and praying.
  • When we know what the Lord desires, learn to yield and do the same.
