Christian Living – pursuing (2)
Bible Verses: (ESV)
8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ. … 12 Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. 13 Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. (Phil. 3:8, 12-14)
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (Matt. 5:3)
Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, (Phil. 2:5)
But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere. (2 Cor. 2:14)
Message Outline
- Review
In our life we are always pursuing something of worth, either a person or a subject. Christians pursue Christ because we His surpassing worth. In such pursuing we gain God’s life and nature.
Not only we pursue Christ, we also lay hold on what Christ has laid hold on us. This indicates that we can understand His will and become His expression in our life.
- How can we pursue?
- Preparation of our attitude: humble (poor in spirit)
- The ways of pursuing: reading the bible, praying, preaching the gospel and gathering.
- The outcome of our pursuing
- Having the mind which is in Christ
Our pursuing enables us to love what Christ loves. We learn to love others that they may receive God’s salvation as well as to love brothers and sisters that we can supply and support each other in our Christian journey.
- Spread the fragrance of Christ
Our pursuing makes us full of the fragrance of Christ and enables us to spread it. Such fragrance can satisfy God and help us attract others to know Christ and gain Christ.

Intercession:
- Pray for Lydia, Winnie Jiang, Hui Yang, and Holly who are newly baptized that they can grow healthily in the Lord.
Keep praying for the gospel friends among us, especially young people and our family members, so that our Lord can open their hearts to see God’s salvation and be willing to receive the Lord and become the member in God’s family.
- Pray for the health of each family (especial for the older ones). Pray especially for Sister Da-Nan Lu who just came back from China. May the Lord care her spirit, soul, and body.
- Pray for those who are weak in spirit that the grace of the Lord can be sufficient for them.
